One thing I’ve learned about spirituality, real spirituality, and not this new-age propaganda that is spreading like wildfire, is that true spirituality is deeply grounded in the 3D physical world. You live in a spiritual manner in your daily life. It’s not a tag that you flaunt around, nor a photo op with numerous deities and gurus. Of course, these things are always welcome and appreciated, but only when done with devotion and reverence and not when showing off for likes or favours.

・A truly spiritual person is humble, respectful and puts others needs before their own, but not at the expense of their own needs. They understand that to be of service, one needs to be fulfilled within and without.

・A truly spiritual person is responsible, full of integrity and trustworthy. They think of the greatest good of all, and not just about the satisfaction of their own ego needs and desires.

・A truly spiritual person is disciplined in their everyday lives and performs their duties to the self and others with utmost respect, care and due diligence. There is no place for excuses and laziness in a spiritual person’s life. They are go-getters of the highest order.

・A truly spiritual person is a rational human being who thinks and makes decisions from their head and heart, practical and emotional, because they realise the importance and significance of both these elements. The soul and the human self. They are united within their own polarities and can function in the worldly world just as well as in the spiritual world.

・A truly spiritual person is dependable, kind and humorous. They have a sense of humour and can laugh about things when life throws a curveball at them instead of cribbing and blaming the self or others.

・A truly spiritual person has empathy as a core trait and will never go out of their way to disrespect anyone. But, they are also practical and respect themselves enough so they wouldn’t take any bullshit lying down. They will act as and when the situation calls for it, not for their own ego. This is to let the world know that kindness is not weakness. Just as a spiritual person can wield their words to lift others up, they can also wield those same words to shut down naysayers and teach the fools a lesson they desperately need to learn to move into a higher level of consciousness.

・A truly spiritual person is not stuck in dualities, they have achieved and continue to achieve singularity in their everyday lives through their words and actions i.e. they move beyond the notions of good and bad, right and wrong. They see the world for what it is and act accordingly.

Some examples of truly spiritual people who went on to become great gurus include His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Praphupada, Paramahansa Yogananda, Swami Vivekananda and many more. So, does this mean that everyday folks like us cannot be spiritual? No, of course not! We can be spiritual too if we embody these traits in our daily lives and strive to live a life for growth and evolution in all areas of our existence.
