Spirituality has so many facets to it, but in its essence, it’s about knowing and embodying the true authentic self and connecting with the source of all existence; you may call it the universe, God or any other noun that you prefer. It’s a vast and endless topic that you can never get enough of, so listed below are 5 books that you will love if you’re into spirituality or would love to know more about it. Check it out!
1. If Truth be Told: A Monk’s Memoir by Om Swami

• “I had to be certain I wasn’t choosing the spiritual path as an escape from the material challenges of the world. To achieve the pinnacle of material success and then to walk away would be a far truer renunciation. If I had nothing to lose in the first place, what was I renouncing?”
• This book was something else. After a very long time, I found something that I just couldn’t put down.
• I wasn’t sure what to expect when I bought this book but the premise was interesting, so I thought, might as well give it a try. Honestly, at first, I was expecting the usual story of a man who leaves behind everything to become a monk, but after reading the first chapter, I knew this book would not disappoint.
• The instances in the book are so vivid, I felt like I was there with the author. The description of things, his feelings and thoughts as he writes them in the sequence he does, makes the reader feel as if they are directly peeking into his mind.
• However, the pace of the book was what fascinated me the most. It’s as if through his writing, the author made the reader privy to his mental state at different stages of his life. For example, when the author was a young boy, his writing depicts his innocence, steadiness and a bit of restlessness. Further, when he moves to Australia and his life there is fleeting and fast, his writing depicts that too. And finally, when he achieves his goal, his writing has a serene quality to it, much like his renewed self.
• In terms of the story, the book had moments that were sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, sometimes sarcastic and sometimes angry, all elements that make up life as a whole, which is exactly what this book is about.
• Overall, it was fascinating to learn about someone who had it all, and then gave it all up because he had to attend to his true calling in life. Loved it!
2. The Cave: An Internet Entrepreneur’s Spiritual Journey by Alok Kejriwal

• One reason I absolutely love reading memoirs is because while reading them, I forget that this is someone’s real life story. But, I am also simultaneously reminded that this is someone’s real life story. It’s a different kind of magic to realise and experience the varied kinds of fascinating lives people, especially spiritually-inclined people, live and have lived on this planet we call our home.
• “I thrive as a capitalist and as a spiritualist. I am as comfortable in a Himalayan cave as I am in a corporate boardroom.”
• The Cave by Alok Kejriwal, a leading digital entrepreneur, is a book which has reaffirmed my faith in miracles and synchronicities, but also hard work and dedication in life.
• In this memoir, Mr. Kejriwal takes the reader through various moments in his life wherein he experienced the grace of his gurus and god, and then turned every opportunity into a winning situation for himself.
• Through the book, I also learned that when one is aligned to the right path, things happen effortlessly for them and they just need to take charge and get it done.
• All in all, this book is about having and building faith in any higher power we choose to believe in and to see our lives change for the better.
• Call me old-fashioned, but I love me some good old pravachan (preaching) because those simple words are infused with so much wisdom that if we just ingest it’s core, we have the ability to completely transform our lives. And hence, the author’s ‘Connecting the dots’ section at the end of every chapter wherein he imparts his teachings based on his own experiences was my favourite aspect of the book.
• Funny, engaging and to-the-point, would definitely recommend this book to all memoir lovers.
3. Living Spirituality by Meetu Bisht

• This book first and foremost clears the definition of spirituality for the everyday guy or girl. It invites the reader to step into the world of the unknown and start to build their lives in a conscious manner by using the various tools that spirituality offers to understand one’s life better and live it to the fullest with joy and a grateful heart. Basically, it is ‘Intro to Spirituality’ in its most rudimentary form.
• This one is a must-read if you want to understand the fundamentals of spirituality and how to practically use these concepts in your day-to-day life.
4. The Bedside Book of Life by Jal Patel

• Like the name suggests, this book is about the laws of nature and spirituality that govern our lives. It is about understanding these principles and using certain tools mentioned in the book to better our lives and live more consciously and fully.
• The fun thing about the book is that the chapters are short and fun to read and you can also read them in any order and come back to certain topics whenever you need a refresh or a better understanding of it.
5. Why We Are Who We Are by Meetu Bisht

• To put it plainly and simply, this book is an insight into our souls, karmic mandates and the higher purpose of why we’re here (as the title aptly mentions).
• It delves deeply into each of these topics and discusses the why, how and what for all these aspects.
• Filled with gentle yet powerful wisdom, this book is an eye-opener for all of us suffering and wanting to know the answers but also for those who are on the path and want to dive deeper into the depths of themselves.
• Simple and succinct, you wonder how such information has been presented with so much detail yet is so easy to read and digest.
• I certainly took my time to read the book as I wanted to take it all in and think deeply about the subjects mentioned in the book in accordance with my own life experiences. With this one, I think this is the way to go because every time you read it, you’ll find a deeper meaning to a truth you’ve already realised or are in the process of realising.
• Definitely a must-read if you’re interested in learning more about life in general, and why things, and especially you are the way you are.
• Special mention to the drawings in the book, they reaffirm the message of learning deeper truths each time we dive into another higher level of consciousness.
