Curious to look into the past, present and/or future? Forget the time machine and get on board the esoteric express as tarot cards just might be your saviour.

A widely popular practice now, tarot card reading is a method by which tarot readers gain insight into different timelines of a person’s past, present or future by drawing and interpreting cards and asking questions. It is a type of cartomancy or fortune-telling by using a deck of cards.

An enigmatic subject, there is a lot of debate amongst different groups of people regarding the validity and use of tarot card reading. While some beings consider this a sacred practice, there are others who dismiss it altogether and claim it to be a hoax.

My first experience with tarot card reading was in November 2019. At that time, I was extremely intrigued by tarot reading and felt drawn to explore this practice. And by explore, I mean binge-watch a number of YouTube tarot videos until I was somehow adept at understanding its basic meaning and workings.

Like with all things spiritual, tarot card reading is also highly personal and based on an individual’s life experiences, current and past energies, their motives and goals. It is not a one size fits all, except in cases where readers perform general readings i.e. readings for the general collective population. Even then, when one acesses general collective readings, it will not resonate with every single person as they might not be attuned to that particular energy or vibration.

I was a sceptic when I first dipped my toe into the tarot pond, but soon found myself to be a believer. In my case, my scepticism helped me, in that I would not accept some woman just telling me what or how I feel and what probable future might be waiting for me. However, my willingness and intrigue led me down the right path to finding readers who were honest, sincere and very good at what they do.

The first couple of videos I watched were mainly instructional as I was learning how to ‘get into the zone’ to get an accurate reading. These tarot readings were mainly pick-a-card readings where tarot readers pose a question and give their audience two to four choices to choose from either in the form of different cards, decks, stones or any other differentiating object.

Now, before you choose a pile, you are supposed to take a few deep breaths, clear your mind and relax. Then, you pick a pile that speaks to you the most or the one you are drawn to the most and go over the reading for that particular pile.

Initially, it takes a little bit of practice to figure out which pile speaks to you the most, as it all feels extremely random. However, once you try and calm yourself and get into the right alignment mentally, spiritually and physically, it is a piece of cake. With continued practice, an open mind and ability to surrender to the process, one can attune themselves to know what feels right and what does not, just like anything else in life.

But, this is not to say that every reading will be a perfect fit as readings are mostly a hit or miss as they are uploaded on YouTube for a wide collection of people all over the world. If you want accuracy, then you will have to get a personal reading from reliable tarot card readers who can tune into your energy to be able to gauge the answers to your particular questions.

Misconceptions about Tarot Card Reading

The most misunderstood notion about tarot card reading is that it is used as a method to predict the future. This is not true because based on my understanding and research, tarot card readers tune into probable energies i.e. the future is not set in stone and can change if the energies change.

To put it simply, the future can change if the intention changes. This relates to the theory of the existence of multiple realities in quantum physics which states that multiple versions of reality can exist at the same time. Thus, if you choose a different intention, you choose that particular reality to be your truth in that present moment.

Conclusion

Thus, tarot card reading is an interesting avenue to explore and learn about because of its various eccentricities, but also practicality. Who knew it could make you more intuitive and self-aware? As mentioned before, this is all a play of surrendering to the process and being open to essentially learning about something that is viewed as out of the ordinary.

This process can appear to be a hoax if you believe it to be or it could be as real as the words you are reading right now if you so choose, because in tarot reading, the formula is, if you feel it, believe it.

I would like to end this article by quoting most tarot readers on YouTube, “take what resonates and leave the rest.”
